🐦 Early Bird Waiver Portal
In June, USC opens the Early Bird Waiver portal specifically for returning students who successfully submitted a waiver in the previous year. This allows eligible returning students to have the USC Student Health Insurance charge credited from their tuition bill early and avoid peak review periods. Incoming students can access the waiver portal after completing course registration.
🎓 Advice for Incoming Students
Incoming students can access the waiver portal after course registration is complete. We recommend purchasing your DIANins plan in advance during the Early Bird period to claim your complimentary Dental Plan, and then submitting your waiver application once course registration opens.
✅ What to Do After Purchasing?
Within 1–2 minutes of enrollment, you will receive a Confirmation Email with attachments including: Insurance ID Card, Confirmation Letter, and Policy documents. Please download and save these files as they are required for your waiver application.

If tuition has not been paid: Once the waiver is approved, the university will deduct the semester health insurance charge directly from your student billing statement.
If tuition has already been paid: Once approved, the student billing account will update within 3–5 business days to refund the semester health insurance charge back to your student account.

Q1: Can I get a refund if my waiver application is denied? ▼
As long as no claims have been filed, providing official proof of waiver denial from the university qualifies you for a 100% full refund from DIANins.
Q2: When is the best time to purchase insurance? ▼
Purchasing during the Early Bird promotion period grants you a complimentary Dental Plan, provided you complete enrollment before USC's official waiver deadline (September 11, 2026). If you do not require a Dental Plan, you may reply to the "DIANins Global - Member Benefits Selection" email to request a Starbucks eGift card instead.
Q3: Where do USC incoming students receive required vaccinations and TB tests? ▼
USC organizes on-campus health screenings, vaccinations, and Tuberculosis (TB) blood tests for incoming students. Regardless of whether you waive USC SHIP, you can complete these requirements directly at the USC Student Health Center.
Students who have waived USC SHIP do not need to pay out of pocket on the spot. The Student Health Center will post the charges to your MySHR student account. After paying through your account, you can submit the bill for 100% full reimbursement under your DIANins coverage.
